Beyond Us Ministries BUM House “Code of Conduct” Our goal at the BUM House is to be good witnesses for Christ. We believe that the following areas are important for every Christian and will be expected of all BUM residents. In the event of a breach of this Code of Conduct or the lease agreement, the student/renter will be given a three step process: for the first offense: they will be shown grace and given extra accountability and placed on a 30 day probation. In the event of a second offense: they will be required to appear before the Beyond Us Ministries Board of Directors to plea their individual circumstances and discuss possible remedies including additional monetary fines if applicable depending on the situation. In the event of a third offense: the situation will be brought before a committee from the Board of Directors and the student will most likely be required to move out due to their repeated breach of contract. General Expectations: Building up one another (Romans 15:1-2), Making allowance for one another (Colossians 3:12-13), Caring for one another (Galatians 6:2), Respecting one another (Colossians 3:11-14, 1 John 3:14-18), Speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), Reconciliation (Matthew 5:23-24; 18:15-17) Attributes of the heart (Hebrews 12:14), Prohibited Behaviors (1 Corinthians 6:9-11), Submission to Civil Authority (Romans 13:1-7) No alcohol – either on or off the property 1 Peter 5:8; 1 Corinthians 6: 9-20 (We have never seen a circumstance where alcohol improved things, more often than not it leads to many problems. We choose to be very cautious in this area.) No Tobacco Products/Smoking – either on or off the property (this includes all forms: smokeless chewing tobacco, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping, and any other related products) No illegal or recreational drugs – either on or off the property 1 Peter 5:8; Romans 14:21 No sexual relations – either on or off the property including overnight stays with the opposite sex. General rule of purity: if you cover it with a swim suit…..hands off. If you wouldn’t do it during the middle of church, don’t do it behind closed doors. True purity is not a legal badge of honor to achieve, but rather a heart desire to honor God with your body and His design for it. (We believe that sexual relationships are to be between 1 woman and 1 man only and as designed by God to be enjoyed exclusively after marriage) 1 Corinthians 6:18-20; Hebrews 13:4 No pornography – either on or off the property Matthew 5:27-28 No inappropriate language – keep it clean, keep it encouraging Ephesians 4:29 No weapons on BUM property (This includes, guns, bow & arrow, fixed blade knives or any knife exceeding 4” in length, tasers, etc.) Careful consideration for appropriate content of all “entertainment” This includes movies, music, games, reading material, computer content (When guests walk into a room, will they see, hear, and experience what we as a ministry are trying to reflect?) Accountability to each other including: Required attendance at house meetings – held the 2nd Sunday of each month after evening church (BUM House residents will meet regularly with the Directors to discuss house rules/chores, upcoming events, accountability check – inquire about participation and what they have been learning via their church attendance, personal devotion time, etc) Required church involvement – either home church or a local church (While we value and expect your involvement with the BUM Bible study weekly, it doesn’t replace you being involved in the local body of believers.) Personal Conduct – representative of BUM 24/7 (Please be aware that your personal conduct is a reflection on the ministry as a whole. By signing this code of conduct you are agreeing to live to the best of your ability to honor Christ in both your words and actions.) Chores/Responsibilities for house (Yes, you have freedoms that come with independence, but the BUM House is not the same as renting an apartment. We expect you to be respectful of the facility as well as others living with you. There will be shared responsibilities for general cleaning.) Visitation Hours (The BUM House will have designated visitation hours that will be clearly posted as well as “quiet hours”. At all times please be respectful of your roommates as well as neighbors in the community regardless of the time of day. Quiet hours from 10:00 PM through 9:00 AM from Sunday to Wednesday, midnight through 9:00 AM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Quiet hours will apply 24/7 during finals week to provide a relaxing place to study. Opposite sex visitors will be allowed in the duplex between the hours of 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM Sunday through Wednesday and from 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Under no circumstances are opposite sex visitors allowed in bedrooms. They must remain in the common areas – kitchen, dining, and living room. Same sex visitors will be allowed everyday between the hours of 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM. It is your responsibility to discuss hosting visitors with your roommates. Please be considerate of their schedules and shared space. At the beginning of each semester, compare schedules and set aside at least 1 night a week where there will be no extra guests allowed. This will be a time for you and your roommates to grow closer without interruptions.) Doors (The front doors have self locking keypad codes instead of keys that remain locked 24/7. You may NOT under any circumstances share your code with others.) Overnight Guest Policy (Each resident will be allowed a maximum of 20 total overnight guests during the duration of the school year lease. All overnight guests must be 18 years or older, same gender as you, and pre approved by your roommates. The Directors must be informed prior to any overnight guests. If all roommates are in agreement, guests who have attended Thursday night BUM that night can be allowed to stay with you after BUM and this will not count against your total, but it must be pre approved. Our goal is to create a community of believers and we feel that hospitality to brothers and sisters in Christ is important. We also want you as roommates to create a special support system for one another. At the beginning of each semester, compare schedules and set aside at least 1 night a week where there will be no extra guests allowed. This will be a time for you and your roommates to grow closer without interruptions. Things to consider: extra guests will mean an inconvenience to your roommates – always put the consideration of your roommates first. Do they have an early class? Do they need access to the bathroom to get ready at a specific time? Also remember that extra people mean utility costs could rise. While your utilities are included with your rent, there is a cap on expenses and you will be required to pay any overages of the preset amounts. It is your responsibility to inform your guests of our Code of Conduct, quiet hours, and see that they abide by them while visiting.) Curfew (No curfew will be put in place for residents of the BUM House, but please use common sense for coming and going to show respect for not only your roommates, but also the neighbors. We are located in a residential area and we always want to show great consideration for the community.) Rules for “shared space”/public access areas (This will be a work in progress as we continue to be in the construction phase. The basement is open for your use anytime a small group, or other BUM activity isn’t scheduled. You may bring guests, but you are responsible to make clear the rules and expectations. You are expected to clean up and put things away after each use.) General Beliefs: – The authority and inerrancy of Scripture – The Trinity – The full deity and humanity of Christ – The spiritual lostness of the human race – The substitutionary atonement and bodily resurrection of Christ – Salvation by faith alone in Christ alone – The physical return of Christ By signing this document I am stating that I have read all of the statements and rules listed concerning the Code of Conduct and beliefs of the BUM House. I agree with them and agree to abide by these terms. I fully understand that if at any time I break anything in the above contract I am subject to appearing before the Board of Directors (or a committee from the board) to review my unique situation and possibly face disciplinary action not excluding expulsion from the BUM House.Submit Registration
